Kibera Hope Center

Located in the slums adjacent to the Nairobi City limits, Kibera Hope Center is unique in many ways. At this time it has no community buildings of its own but uses the facilities owned and operated by friendly churches and other Christian groups. The activities are the same as in all the other Hope Centers.
Our sponsorship program has helped put children in school and provided them with a balanced lunch each day. Medical care is provided through a small clinic run by a Christian doctor who treats the children for a small fee.
We have established Saturday Clubs where the children learn about Jesus and enjoy time together. The Special Ministries staff is faithful in House to House visitation, and seminars are taught regularly to help our people learn new things about their walk with the Lord.
The work in Kibera is hard and very demanding because of its unique location, and the unusual problems faced by the people in slum areas.
This was the first Hope Center to benefit from the Women’s Hope Projects that help women generate income for their families. These women are mainly single mothers and widows with large families. Most of them have little or no skills that would enable them to get employment. There is no land in the urban area for them to grow crops and so they depend on small businesses to earn enough money to feed their families.
The Special Ministries staff provides security and hope for families in desperate situations.
