Cheppema is a very busy Hope Center, located among the Kalengin people in the Nakuru District of Kenya. A local pastor and his wife began taking needy children into his own home, and treating them like their own. Soon, they had 14 children living with them and their own children. Their care was beyond what the pastor and his family could manage. It was time to start the Cheppema Hope Center!
We held our first seminar in October 2002 to teach the community people how to walk in God’s ways, thus improving their daily family life. In March 2003, a new church was built by Summer Mission Teams from Chippewa Evangelical Free Church in Pennsylvania, and Autumn Ridge Church from Minnesota. These same teams built the clinic and one duplex housing unit in 2004. What a blessing it is to work with God’s people on the building teams! By the end of 2004 we built the first two classrooms of the school.
It is our desire to see this Hope Center continue to grow as more and more people come to know the Lord. Several teams have helped to build buildings, but we still have urgent needs for more classrooms, teachers housing, and boarding facilities for poor and needy children who would not otherwise be able to attend school.
Today we have over 100 children in the school, learning and doing very well. There are 9 Christian teachers helping the children learn, and a Pastor in the chapel who is helping them and their families grow in their knowledge of God.
God continues to use this Hope Center in wonderful ways and we praise Him for our staff and the work that is done at Cheppema.
